CV in prose
Recently I completed my PhD in Musicology at the University of South Africa (UNISA). Totally a research project, my focus was on affordances and cognition in specific guitar chords, and as much about cognitive psychology as about music or guitar chords. As completion of my doctoral work neared I was asked to submit a narrative CV for the graduation ceremony. This is what I came up with, and I hope it gives you just a little more information about my journey.
Born in Franklin, Indiana, USA, Paul David Roman received his BME from Oral Roberts University, his MAR in sacred music from Oklahoma City University, an MBA from OCU, and has completed post-graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma in Choral Conducting. He has also taught international marketing, international management, organizational communication, organizational behaviour, and business finance. He has served as the Faculty Senate president, and received the Faculty Service Award.
An ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church, Roman ministered as a music and worship pastor as well as mission coordinator for New Covenant UMC in Edmond, OK, St. Mark's UMC in Bethany, OK, and Mustang UMC in Mustang, OK. He also served as associate minister at First UMC of Senatobia, MS and St. Paul's UMC in Okemah, OK; he was the youth director at Will Rogers UMC in Tulsa, OK. Lots of stuff there, but I was limited in amount of words to be used. It's been a life, for sure!
